Gov. Evers deploys state National Guard to Milwaukee County to assist in flood recovery efforts
MIWAUKEE, Wis (CIVIC MEDIA) – Governor Tony Evers approved the deployment of the state National Guard to Milwaukee County Sunday after severe flooding impacted the region.
The assembly of the National Guard comes after Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley declared a State of Emergency, as the surplus of water caused property damage, power outages, and road closures. Local firefighters estimate that they responded to over 600 emergency calls from Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Gov. Evers announced the deployment of the National Guard in a social media post, stating his office will provide “state assistance wherever we can.”

Several areas in southeast Wisconsin have a flood warning still in effect. The Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management issued the following warnings to those residing in affected areas:
- Avoid walking in floodwater – it may be contaminated or hide dangerous debris
- Do not drive on flooded streets
- Check on neighbors and loved ones, especially older adults
- Limit water use to reduce the risk of sewer backups
- In an emergency, call 911
