Chippewa Falls Aspirus Health Hospital Officially Breaks Ground
CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis (WCFW) – Chippewa Falls area residents gathered at the soon to be constructed Aspirus Health Hospital site for a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday.
When construction is completed, the 22 acre site on Chippewa Crossing Boulevard will feature a 35,000 square foot facility. The first phase of construction is slated to wrap up in September of 2026, and will include an emergency department, 10 treatment rooms, 10 inpatient beds, and an on-site clinic with 12 treatment rooms. It will also feature imaging and lab services as well as a pharmacy.
“With Aspirus joining our community, we will have convenient access to excellent healthcare that will lead to an overall better quality of life for our city residents and our neighbors in the surrounding area,” said Chippewa Falls Mayor Jason Hiess. “More than just healthcare, Aspirus will bring the city economic benefits through quality jobs, community spending, and hopefully complimentary businesses in the surrounding areas.”
The new hospital will be a welcome development for Chippewa Falls residents, who have lacked adequate access to healthcare since the closure of HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital last year.
Aspirus Wisconsin Northwest Region President Jason Troxell also addressed concerns over Medicaid reimbursements, a significant factor in the closure of the HSHS hospitals. Cuts to Medicaid in the new federal budget have renewed those concerns for rural hospitals across the country.
“Everyone’s impacted by reimbursement challenges,” said Troxell. “But with Aspirus, we have a large system in place that can support all the various hospitals and clinics. We work together with strategic projects in order to do everything with high excellence and efficiency. And if we can do that we can combat, if you will, the changes in reimbursement from Medicaid and be able to survive and actually thrive in that market.”
