The Milwaukee Brewers have had several historic win-streaks this summer. And for lifelong fan and award-winning filmmaker Sean Hanish, it may feel a little like déjà vu. The Wisconsin native is now based in California and directed Just a Bit Outside: The Story of the 1982 Brewers. It’s a documentary celebrating the only Brewers team to make it to the World Series.

“The summer of ’82 was magic,” Hanish says. “Until this year, it was the best Brewers summer ever. Now, we’re living something that feels just as special.”

The documentary was released in September of 2024 and boasts a 100% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. But it’s finding new life as Milwaukee’s ballclub dominates the current standings. Hanish says fans often tell him the film deepens their pride in the Brewers and the city itself.

“We love our teams harder than any other state,” he explains. “I think the movie helps remind people of that.”

And while he won’t take credit for the Brewers’ current success, Hanish admits he’s heard whispers the film may have inspired the players.

“If even one player watched Robin Yount’s interview at the end — where he still regrets not winning the ’82 Series — that could hit deep,” he says.

For Hanish, the greatest joy is sharing the game with family. His son may be growing up in Pasadena but roots for Milwaukee and watches every game with him.

“It’s special,” Hanish says. “Brewers baseball connects generations.”

And as the Brewers chase history in 2025, Hanish hopes this season will give fans, both young and old, another unforgettable chapter.
