RICHLAND COUNTY, Wis (WRCO / WRCE) – On Aug. 28, Richland County Dispatch received a 911 call for a truck vs. UTV crash on County Highway CC at Hanko Drive.
Richland County Sheriff’s Deputies began responding to the incident and requested UW Medflight be paged as information gathered at the time stated an occupant of the UTV was unresponsive.
Richland County Dispatch paged Cazenovia Fire and EMS to the scene. Upon arrival, it was found that a pickup truck driven by Kerry McBain and a juvenile passenger was westbound on County Highway CC. A Polaris General UTV operated by James Koelker and passenger Sandra Koelker was southbound on Hanko drive.
Witnesses to the crash stated that James stopped at the stop sign before continuing south crossing over County Highway CC, not yielding right-of-way to the oncoming truck. While crossing County Highway CC, the truck operated by McBain struck the UTV, causing it to roll down the roadway. James and Sandra were found unresponsive in the UTV. After being extricated from the UTV, life saving measures were attempted.
Cazenovia EMS was assisted by Reedsburg Paramedics and UW Medflight. James and Sandra where pronounced deceased at the scene. Wisconsin DNR and the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team were requested to assist in the investigation. The crash is still under investigation at this time.
