Royals and Packers win. Brewers assured playoff spot.
Royals are on a winning streak. Packers win, but don't emerge unscathed. The Brewers are sure to be at the playoffs.
Royals win again
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. (WFHR, WIRI) – In what has been a tougher season for the four local high school football teams, the Assumption Royals are carrying the water in the win column as it earned its second straight victory with a 32-26 in overtime over Iola-Scandinavia.
Nekoosa couldn’t rally past Wautoma, dropping a 25-28 decision while Port Edwards and Wisconsin Rapids were handed one-sided defeats with Port losing to Almond-Bancroft 59-6 and Rapids being dropped by Stevens Point 56-0.
This week, Rapids and Nekoosa hit the road with the Raiders going to Wausau West and Papermakers going to Waupun.
Port will receive a forfeit victory over Bowler/Gresham, but will host Rosholt, while Assumption hosts Abbotsford.
The Royals and Falcons will be broadcast on 105.5 FM WIRI with pregame beginning at 6:50pm with Mike Kommer and Randy Pahl on the call.
Packers win, suffer key injury
For the first time since the 2020 season, the Green Bay Packers have started the season with a 2-0 record with a 27-18 victory over Washington on Thursday, September 11.
Green Bay will next play on Sunday, Sept. 21 when they play at Cleveland for a noon kickoff.
The Packers last played on Dec. 25, 2021 at Lambeau Field with the Packers earning the 24-22 victory.
The last meeting between the teams was in 2017 with the Packers winning 27-21 in overtime as they hold a 14-7-0 head-to-head advantage.
The Browns have not defeated the Packers since 2005.
Brewers clinch post season spot
The Milwaukee Brewers are officially playoff- bound as they mathematically achieved the feat on Saturday, September 13 after the New York Mets were defeated by the Texas Rangers.
As of Wednesday, Sept. 17, the Brewers, Chicago Cubs, and Philadelphia Phillies are the only three teams that have clinched playoff spots with the Phillies winning the National League East.
