Last week, Iowa Senator Joni Ernst held a town hall, which is a rarity among Republicans these days. When discussing Medicaid cuts proposed in upcoming GOP legislation, one of her constituents exclaimed, “people are going to die!” Sen. Ernst responded by saying that everybody is going to die someday. Today, we share a video she posted on social media the next day, doubling down on her callousness and insulting the intelligence of her constituents. This is truly shameful behavior from a United States senator. 

At the bottom of the hour, State Senator Kelda Roys returns for another update on the Joint Finance Committee’s state budget deliberations. Sen. Roys informs us that the GOP members of the JFC continue to hold up the process as the deadline creeps ever closer. Our state’s systems for childcare, healthcare, LGBTQ+ rights and more could be in jeopardy, and we walk through the issues and how to solve them.
