The kids are back to school around the state. And one Wisconsin mom is pinpointing this time to raise her voice in a call for safer classrooms. Marta Hansen is a singer-songwriter and is combining her music talent with a passion for advocacy. The Sun Prairie woman has created a message she hopes will resonate far beyond her own kids and community. And it’s being released in a big way.

Watch Marta Hansen perform Bang Bang on the Max Ink Radio show:

Hansen is a longtime volunteer with the Wisconsin chapter of Moms Demand Action. It is a national grassroots movement of millions dedicated to ending gun violence. Her work with the organization is what inspired her to write Bang Bang. The powerful song takes on the devastating reality of school shootings.

“I decided I’d had enough and I wanted to use my voice to change our gun laws and make our schools and public places safer,” Hansen explains. “All people and all kids — are all our kids. We should be protecting all of them, not just mine, but everyone’s.”

Now, Hansen is taking her message to the next level with the first fully produced music video for Bang Bang. She believes pairing the song with a visual story will deepen its emotional impact. She hopes it and inspires more people to turn concern into action, too.

It is set to premiere during her “Songs for a Safer Madison” show at Bierock on the city’s northside, Saturday, September 13, 2025, starting at 6 pm.

“My hope is that this song and the video will be a catalyst,” she explains. “I know everyone cares, but I want people to take that one extra step—from caring to action.”

Hansen is channeling grief, urgency, and hope through her music and turning it into a rallying cry for change. The video will be available for everyone to view on YouTube after the premiere. She also wants school officials around the state to use it as a starting point to create more awareness.
